On June 21, a citizen reported to Valdosta officials that she had discovered inappropriate content on her 7-year-old niece’s cell phone. The woman also told police that she had noticed a man sending sexually explicit images to her niece’s cell phone and that the 7-year-old was also sending photos to the man.

When authorities questioned the child, she had met the man, later identified as Kyle Flores, 22, of Springfield, VA, through an app called Monkey Cool.

According to the app’s website, it is a live video chat that connects people locally and around the world.

LATEST STORIES:

Valdosta Police Department officers obtained arrest warrants for Flores charging him with obscene internet contact with a child, sexually explicit conduct with a minor, child molestation and providing obscene material to a minor.

After receiving the warrants, VPD contacted Fairfax County Police in Virginia, who served a search warrant and arrested Flores. He is currently being held without bail in the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center awaiting extradition to Lowndes County.

“This was an excellent team effort by multiple agencies to take this sex offender into custody. If your children have smartphones, please be aware of the apps they have on their phones. If you see the Monkey Cool app, know that it is being used by sex offenders to find child victims and you need to contact law enforcement. Keep an eye on your children’s phones and know what apps they have access to,” said Police Chief Leslie Manahan.
