The Great Britain women’s basketball game against Germany on Sunday was abandoned after a medical incident in the crowd.

The exhibition match at the Copper Box Arena in London was abandoned after the third half when a fan alerted the German bench to the emergency.

Paramedics went to the stands to help and covered the spectator with sheets to ensure his privacy. The spectator was later taken away on a stretcher.

Germany led 54:43, but both sides decided to end the game.

“During the exhibition match between Great Britain and Germany, a medical incident occurred involving a member of the public,” GB Basketball said in a statement.

“After consultation with the key stakeholders, the decision was made to abandon the game.

“The British Basketball Association would like to thank the UK and Germany for a fantastic display of the sport and the fans for their support and understanding in these circumstances.”

Germany will continue its preparations for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris against the USA on Tuesday, while Great Britain has failed to qualify for the Games.
