Rodri and Morata face UEFA ban

UEFA has initiated disciplinary proceedings against Spanish striker Álvaro Morata and his teammate Rodri for singing about a claim to sovereignty over Gibraltar.

Morata and Rodri sang the song during La Roja’s European Championship title celebrations.

In a statement on Friday, UEFA said a disciplinary inspector would be “convened to investigate a possible breach” of the rules by the two players.

Morata and Rodri inspired the huge crowd to sing “Gibraltar is Spanish” on Monday.

The celebrations took place a day after Spain’s 2-1 victory over England in the final of the 2024 European Championship.

Gibraltar, on the southern tip of Spain, has been a British overseas territory for more than 300 years.

The Gibraltar Football Association submitted a formal complaint to UEFA on Thursday.
