Case update: Public asked to help in murder investigation

Charlotte, NC – (Wednesday, July 17, 2024) – The victim in this case has been identified as Whitney Elizabeth Hurd, 32. Ms. Hurd was reported missing to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) by her family on July 11, 2024. CMPD Homicide Detectives discovered her body on Sunday, July 14, 2024, in a home in the 5500 block of Werburgh Street.

Homicide investigators are asking the public for help in locating the vehicle pictured below, which belongs to Ms. Hurd. The current location of the vehicle is unknown.

Murder investigation in the Providence Division

Charlotte, NC – (Tuesday, July 16, 2024) – Detectives from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 5500 block of Werburgh Street in the Providence Division.

On Sunday, July 14, 2024, shortly before 1:30 p.m., Providence Division officers responded to the 5500 block of Werburgh Street in connection with a death investigation.

Homicide detectives arrived at the scene to conduct an investigation and crime scene investigators were on site to search the scene and collect evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Task Force, Victim Assistance Services, Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC also assisted.

On Monday, July 15, after consultation with the Mecklenburg County Coroner, this case was ruled a homicide.
