Police: Lyndhurst man arrested after allegedly grabbing 3 women’s buttocks

A man who allegedly grabbed three women by the buttocks was arrested in Kearny and Lyndhurst and charged with sexual battery, Det. Sgt. Michael Gontarczuk of the Kearny Police Department told The Observer.

This is how it all went down according to Sergeant Gontarczuk.

On July 13, 2024, at approximately 7:16 p.m., night shift officers responded to a report of a man dressed all in black stalking and harassing a woman walking her dog. The man, later identified as Davon M. Duiguid Jr., 21, of Lyndhurst, was found nearby and arrested by Officers Ruben Rivera, Travis Witt and Bismark Karikari.

The victim was no longer at the scene, but Duiguid was checked for warrants and it was discovered that he was wanted by the Lyndhurst Police Department for a criminal sexual contact that occurred earlier that same day at the Lyndhurst ShopRite in which Duiguid allegedly grabbed the victim’s buttocks.

(On the orders of Judge Savino, a no-bail warrant had been issued for criminal sexual contact.)

In Kearny, he was arrested on the warrant and the Lyndhurst Police Department was notified. While Duguid’s warrant was being processed, an 18-year-old woman called police. At about 6:40 p.m., she was walking her dog near Kearny and Midland Avenue when a man matching Duguid’s description – dressed all in black – grabbed her arm to prevent her from leaving, and then grabbed her buttocks.

The victim tried to free himself, then started hitting him and finally let go of him.

Based on the description and modus operandi, Duguid appeared to be a suspect in this incident as well. Interestingly, the man’s description included an orange-yellow object in his hand – and he was arrested with a large orange-yellow vape pen.

The victim was taken to the tour commander’s office where he was subjected to identification and Duiguid was identified by the victim with 100 percent certainty. Det. Bryan San Martin obtained a recorded statement from the victim and after consultation with the Hudson County District Attorney’s Office, additional charges of sexual abuse were filed.

Duiguid was later transferred without incident to the Hudson County Jail in South Kearny, where he remains as of 10:00 a.m. July 15. Earlier this month, Duiguid was released on court order after spending five days in the Atlantic County Jail.

The original incident at the corner of Maple and Grove Streets remains under investigation.
