1 dead after vehicle plunges into South Alabama River

A Louisville man died in a car crash in Pike County early Thursday morning.

Senior Trooper Kendra McKinney of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) said the incident occurred around 6:55 a.m. on Alabama 130 near the 5 mile marker, about six miles east of Banks.

James Otis McCray, 66, was driving a 2000 Honda CR-V that left the roadway, struck a traffic sign and rolled over before entering a river.

McCray was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, McKinney said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

ALEA Highway Patrol Division officers continue to investigate.
