Police search for owners of nearly stolen car before Metro Transit officer shot suspect – NBC4 Washington

If your dark-colored Jeep Cherokee with Maryland plates was a near-carjacking victim in Rosslyn on July 5, Arlington County Police would like to speak with you.

Police are searching for the owners of the Jeep and continue to investigate a series of crimes that led to a Metro Transit officer opening fire on the suspect.

On July 5, the Metro officer was on his way to the Rosslyn Metro station around 11:30 a.m. when he encountered a man carjacking a person at the corner of N. Nash Street and Fort Myer Drive, Metro Transit Police Chief Michael Anzallo told reporters the day of the incident.

This man was later identified as 30-year-old Mark Anthony Johnson-Crestwell.

Johnson-Crestwell tried unsuccessfully to open the door of a car at 7 p.m.th Street N and Fort Myer Drive, but the driver drove away, Arlington police said.

This is the car whose owners Arlington Police are currently looking for as they investigate the further incident.

After the Jeep drove away, the suspect opened the rear door of another car and yelled at the driver, who then got out, police said.

A Metro Transit Police officer witnessed the incident and ordered the suspect to exit the car, police said. He cooperated, but a struggle broke out between the officer and the suspect as the officer attempted to detain Johnson-Crestwell.

Johnson-Crestwell then tried to flee, police said. The officer pursued him and used pepper spray until the suspect got into an empty garbage truck at N. Kent Street and 19th.th Street N, police said.

The officer ordered Johnson-Crestwell to get out of the truck and shot him at least once, police said.

Johnson-Crestwell was taken to the hospital for his injuries. He is charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle, resisting arrest, obstruction of justice and unauthorized entry of a vehicle.

The investigation is ongoing and police are asking anyone who was in the Jeep Cherokee on July 5 to come forward and provide any additional information or details they may have.
