Vacaville police officer killed during traffic stop

A Vacaville Police Department motorcycle officer was killed in a collision during a traffic stop Thursday morning, the California Highway Patrol reported.

During the traffic stop, Officer Matthew Bowen was struck from behind by another vehicle. Bowen received medical attention at the scene and was taken to the hospital, where he died.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Serena CJ Rodriguez, 24, of Auburn, attempted to flee the scene of the accident on foot.

Bystanders who witnessed the accident detained Rodriguez until CHP officers arrived.

An investigation revealed that Rodriguez was under the influence of drugs, authorities said. She was taken into custody and booked into the Solano County Jail. Charges include manslaughter and driving under the influence of drugs causing injury and/or death.

CHP said the investigation is still ongoing.
