Police name man killed in drive-by shooting in southeast Portland

PORTLAND, Oregon (KPTV) – Police on Thursday released the name of a man who was shot in a drive-by shooting in southeast Portland on Sunday.

The Portland Police Bureau said Walter E. Mulberry, 49, of Portland, was working as a security guard in the Buckman neighborhood when he was shot. Police said a 17-year-old boy was also shot and injured.

Both victims were taken to a hospital, where Mulberry died.

At around 1 a.m. on July 7, police responded to the 100 block of Southeast Ninth Avenue on reports of shots fired.

A man was killed and a teenager injured in a shooting in southeast Portland early Sunday, according to the Portland Police Bureau.

Officers said they observed dozens of gunshots that struck “numerous” parked cars and other objects. Detectives said they believe the suspect or suspects fired from a moving car at a group of people on the sidewalk and then sped away before police arrived.

Police believe many people were present at the shooting and left the scene before officers arrived. Anyone who saw what happened or has other information about the case is asked to contact investigators:

So far, no one has been arrested and police have not released any information about suspects.
