GRAND ISLAND – Following a low-speed chase in Grand Island, a man was caught concealing meth and a glass pipe during a jail search on the afternoon of July 10.

According to Grand Island Police, at 1:28 p.m., officers observed a Dodge Stratus traveling north on Oak Street North approaching 10th Street East, but it failed to stop at the stop sign posted for northbound traffic.

At the corner of 12th St. and Oak St., a traffic stop was attempted, but the vehicle was unable to stop and continued north. Officers activated the sirens, but the vehicle did not stop.

The Stratus turned east onto 17th Street without stopping at another stop sign. Officers continued to attempt to stop the vehicle as it continued at a low speed of 20 mph.

The vehicle would make several more turns and travel about ten blocks without stopping for police. The driver would eventually pull into the driveway of a residence on 19th St. East.

The driver, identified as David Anderson, got out of the vehicle and told officers he admitted he knew police were behind him.

Anderson was arrested and a criminal background check revealed that he did not have a driver’s license.

While at the Hall County Correctional Facility, a thorough search was conducted and an 8.3 gram package of methamphetamine and a glass pipe were found hidden under his genitals.

Anderson would be arrested for possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, evading arrest (a misdemeanor), driving without a license, and two counts of failure to obey a stop sign.
