HENDERSON, Ky (WEHT) – Officers with the Gibson County Sheriff’s Office received lifesaving awards for their actions at a car crash involving injuries on May 24.

According to Sheriff Bruce Vanoven, Deputies Quinten Might and Michael Owens were dispatched to US 41 and Interstate 64. Upon arrival, they saw two vehicles that had collided, with one quickly bursting into flames.

Deputy Might stated that as the fire engulfed the vehicle, he saw a person outside the vehicle sitting with the help of bystanders. Might said the person was unconscious and not breathing.

Vanoven said Might and Owens hooked up an AED and began CPR while Capitol Town Marshal Jason Wright stabilized the patient’s cervical spine to prevent further injury.

Vanoven also said the patient had to be removed from the vehicle during the incident due to small explosions from the fire.

The patient regained consciousness on site and was able to describe details of the accident.
