Atmore Police Department spokesman Sergeant Darrell McMann said in a press release that 30-year-old Tyler Reeve was arrested after escaping from an APD officer.

McMann said that on June 26 at around 10:30 p.m., an APD officer attempted to stop a vehicle after noticing the vehicle failing to maintain its lane on Jack Springs Road.

“The officer activated his blue lights and the vehicle accelerated,” McMann said. “The officer then activated his siren and pursued the vehicle until it stopped at Big Oak Trailer Park. The driver, Tyler Reeve, age 30, of Atmore, refused several verbal requests to exit the vehicle. Reeve questioned the officer’s knowledge of jurisdictional boundaries for several minutes until he was taken into custody. After Reeve was taken into custody, during the pursuit the officer discovered there was a child in the vehicle.”

McMann added that Reeve posted bail and was released from the Atmore Municipal Jammer.

The eluding charge was upgraded to a felony when the officer’s GPS was accessed to determine his speed, he said.

“Reeve exceeded the speed limit by more than 20 miles per hour during the chase,” McMann said. “A warrant was obtained for Reeve’s arrest, he was taken into custody and transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton on July 8, 2024.”
McMann said the case will not be heard in Atmore Municipal Court, but in Escambia County District Court.
