Pittsfield teacher faces grooming charges, investigation expands

PITTSFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Allegations of inappropriate behavior at Miss Hall’s School in Pittsfield have increased after the Berkshire District Attorney’s Office issued a statement urging victims to come forward.

Matthew Rutledge, 62, taught at Miss Hall’s School for more than 30 years. He was placed on leave on March 27 and resigned a few days later amid allegations that he had sponsored several students.

This came after a former student reported him to the school for allegedly sexually abusing and exploiting her during her studies and after she graduated. Two other women have since made similar claims.

In light of these developments, the Berkshire County District Attorney’s Office has issued a statement urging anyone who believes they are victims, witnesses, or has relevant information to come forward. They directed anyone with information to contact the Pittsfield Police Department Detective Bureau at (413) 448-9706 and provide their name and a call-back number.
