South Berwick firefighters respond to tractor trailer accident on RT. 91

SOUTH BERWICK – Firefighters were called to the scene of an accident in Rt. 91 late at night after a tractor-trailer left the road at the bottom of a hill.

At approximately 9:30 p.m., Engine 1 and Car 1 from the South Berwick Fire Department were dispatched following a report of the accident.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured in the incident, but the fully loaded vehicle began leaking fuel upon impact.

The truck’s proximity to nearby electric and natural gas lines raised concerns about potential hazards.

Crews worked with the National Wrecker Service to assess the situation and concluded the immediate risks were under control.

Given the complexity of the accident, authorities decided to secure the truck in place overnight to ensure the safety of the crew and the public.

Firefighters and other emergency responders cleared the scene shortly before midnight after successfully containing all immediate threats.

Motorists are expected to experience traffic delays this morning as work to remove the semi-truck is due to begin.

Authorities are urging motorists to seek alternative routes where possible and to exercise caution when driving through the affected area.
