GreenJackets series finale cancelled due to rain

NORTH AUGUSTA, SC: A gloomy afternoon gave way to a thunderous evening when the heavens opened midway through play and abruptly halted play, forcing a suspension of play between Augusta and Columbia until the end of August.

The weather forecast was grim from the start, but a small window of clear skies allowed the game to begin on time. Braves’ right-hander Ian Anderson started in an ongoing rehab assignment, completing 3.1 hitless innings before the field was cleared due to thunder and lightning that preceded heavy rain. Offensively, the GreenJackets scored 6 runs in 3 innings of chances, capped by a grand slam by Noah Williams, his first home run as a GreenJacket.

Since play is suspended, it will resume at the same location the next time the two teams meet. That date falls on Tuesday, August 27, which will now be played as a doubleheader. The two teams will complete all 9 innings of today’s game, starting with the 4th inning with one out and Augusta leading 6-0. After the first game is completed, a seven-inning night game will be played approximately 35 minutes after the end of Game 1. First pitch of the resume will be at 5:00 p.m., and both games will be single-entry.

All standard ticket exchange policies remain the same as previous postponed or rescheduled ballgames. Tonight’s fireworks display, which was also postponed, will be rescheduled for a later date.

Fans with further questions regarding exchange practices can come to the SRP Park Box Office or call 803-349-9467.
