Tigers commentator Craig Monroe is absent from the show due to allegations of sexual abuse

Craig Monroe, the lead color analyst for the Tigers broadcasts, has been out of the booth for the past few weeks due to allegations of sexual abuse of a minor, according to a source with knowledge of Tigers broadcast activities. Those allegations are currently under investigation by police, according to Fox 2 Detroit.

On June 11, Bally Sports Detroit and the Tigers learned of allegations on social media that television host Craig Monroe had sexually abused a minor. Monroe, who was actually a freelance contributor, was immediately sent home from the stadium and removed from the team’s broadcast schedule, the source said.

On June 21, after investigating Monroe’s absence, the Tigers and Bally released a joint statement saying Monroe had a personal matter that was not on the broadcast schedule.

The post with the allegations against Monroe was initially deleted, but was reposted on X last Thursday, where it received widespread attention. Authorities in Charlotte County, Florida, are currently conducting a criminal investigation into the matter. Bally Sports and the Tigers are leaving the investigation to the authorities.

“Bally Sports Detroit and the Tigers are aware of the allegations on social media and take them seriously,” the companies said in a statement. “As previously stated, Mr. Monroe was not on the broadcast schedule and will remain so indefinitely. We will have no further comment and all questions should be directed to Mr. Monroe.”

Monroe, who has not commentated on a game since June 9, did not respond to several messages from The athleteHis attorney, Michael Manley, made a statement to Fox 2 Detroit on Tuesday.

“Craig Monroe did not take these horrific and false allegations seriously when they appeared on various social media sites,” the statement said. “Now that the mainstream media has chosen to publish this inaccurate information, Craig has no choice but to vehemently deny these claims. We will work with law enforcement and are confident that after a full investigation of this case, Craig will be cleared of any wrongdoing.”

“Craig Monroe takes allegations of this nature very seriously and would never commit or condone such despicable behavior. He and his family are shocked by these allegations and ask for forgiveness and mercy from the accuser. We trust that law enforcement will uncover the truth about her background and motives.”

The woman who published the allegations, which date back to Monroe’s career as a minor league player with the Texas Rangers, also did not respond to The athlete On Monday.

Monroe played nine seasons in the major leagues, including six seasons with the Tigers from 2002-07. Monroe joined the Tigers’ broadcast team as a studio analyst in 2012. By the start of that season, he had risen to become the team’s lead color analyst on television and occasionally commented on games on the radio.
