Former Virginia Army doctor convicted of raping wife after COVID quarantine lifted

In Fairfax County, Virginia, 61-year-old former Army doctor Drew Steiner was sentenced Friday to 30 years in prison for attacking his wife and binding her with duct tape to a post in the basement of their home in September 2020.

The Fairfax County District Attorney detailed the case, noting that this attack occurred about a month after he raped a woman he met online, which he illegally filmed. He is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence for those earlier offenses.

District Attorney Steve Descano said Steiner’s conviction closes a troubling chapter for everyone involved and increases community safety by ensuring Steiner’s extended incarceration. In October 2023, Steiner was convicted after a jury trial of kidnapping with intent to defile, willful injury, and attempted rape.

Steiner had previously served in the Army and was employed as a civilian at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital. His wife testified during his trial, describing that the attack occurred shortly after Steiner had recovered from COVID-19 and asked to leave quarantine.
