ABC-7 First Alert: Scorching heat and chance of thunderstorms

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) – El Paso is expected to see scorching temperatures of up to 105 degrees today, while Las Cruces is bracing for heat of up to 102 degrees today.

It will continue to be quite humid throughout the border region over the weekend and into next week.

High pressure over North Texas will initially push moisture westward, increasing the chance of thunderstorms west of the Rio Grande Valley today.

As the week progresses, temperatures will gradually cool down.

By Tuesday, the high pressure area will move east, distributing the moisture more evenly and increasing the probability of thunderstorms across the region from Wednesday to Friday.
