Car enters Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway from wrong side, 6 dead in horrific accident

At least six people were killed and four injured in a gruesome two-vehicle collision on the Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway (also known as Samruddhi Mahamarg) last night near Kadwanchi village on Samruddhi Highway in Jalna district, nearly 400 kilometres from Mumbai.

The accident occurred around 11pm when a Swift Dzire entered the highway from the wrong side after refuelling and rammed an Ertiga travelling from Nagpur to Mumbai.

The impact was so violent that the Ertiga was thrown into the air and landed on the barrier along the highway, while the occupants were thrown out of the vehicle and onto the road. The other car was a mangled heap of metal.

Six of them died on the spot and pictures showed their blood-soaked bodies lying on the highway.

The Samruddhi Highway Police and the Jalna Police immediately rushed to the accident site. A crane was deployed to rescue the cars. The injured were taken to the district hospital for treatment.
