Senior attacked by bear in his West Vancouver home

A West Vancouver senior is recovering from minor injuries after being attacked by a bear at home.

The BC Conservation Officer Service said the woman was investigating a noise coming from her garage when a black bear “made contact.”

The service says there is evidence that the bear tried to break into the garage.

Emergency services responded to reports of the attack and took the woman to hospital with minor injuries.

Police reportedly patrolled the area and did not see any bears.

The BC Conservation Officer Service is now reminding you to take precautions during wildlife encounters, such as travelling in groups, carrying bear spray and making sure your pets are on a leash.

You can report bear sightings or aggressive bear behavior to the Report All Poachers and Polluters (RAPP) hotline at 1-877-952-7277.
