Police investigate after body recovered from Dan River

DANVILLE, Virginia. – Danville police are investigating after the body of a Danville man was recovered from the Dan River Thursday evening.

Police said the body of 68-year-old Fred Floyd was pulled from the river in the area behind the Carrington Pavilion.

We’re told Floyd was rafting with others in the river when he went out of sight. They found him unconscious and not breathing in the water.

According to authorities, police and emergency services arrived at the scene of the accident at 6:05 p.m., but his death was confirmed a short time later.

The investigation is ongoing.
