Indiana State Police: Shooting in Harrison County leaves 2 dead and 1 injured

HARRISON COUNTY, Indiana – Two people were killed and another injured in a shooting in Harrison County Friday.

According to a press release, emergency responders received a 911 call about a shooting that had occurred in the 3000 block of Mosquito Creek Road near Laconia around 6 p.m. Local police in Harrison County and Indiana State Police responded to the area to investigate the 911 caller’s tip.

When police arrived at the scene, they found an adult male who had been shot in the arm. The man stated that he ran from the scene to a nearby residence to get help.

ISP described the man’s injuries as “non-life threatening,” but he was transported from the scene to University Hospital in Louisville for treatment.

Eventually, law enforcement was able to locate the home where the shooting occurred. After arriving at the home, police attempted to contact anyone who may have been in the area.

According to ISP, police attempts to contact the individuals at the home were unsuccessful. Police then entered the home and found two people dead – an adult male and an adult female. ISP identified the dead as 84-year-old Donald Ray Weaver and 82-year-old Virginia Y. Scofield.

After an investigation, investigators determined that Weaver and the man he shot had a verbal argument prior to the shooting. The man attempted to leave the house during the verbal argument, but Weaver shot him with a handgun.

ISP stated that after the man was shot in the arm, more gunshots were heard from inside the home. Police believe Weaver shot the man in the arm, shot Scofield, and then turned the gun on himself.

Police are still investigating the incident. The Harrison County Coroner’s Office and other local law enforcement agencies are assisting ISP.

At the time of publication of this article, no further information was available regarding the incident.
