Maryland State Police officer hit by possibly drunk driver at construction site in Montgomery County

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Maryland (DC News Now) — Maryland State Police (MSP) said a police officer was struck by a driver who may have been under the influence of alcohol early Wednesday morning.

The trooper was in a marked vehicle with his blue lights on in a construction zone on the outer loop of I-495 near Greentree Road in Montgomery County just after 1 a.m. According to MSP, he was parked in lane one of the construction zone — two lanes were blocked off with orange traffic cones, traffic signals and signs.

Nithya Ramani, 37, of Montgomery Village, drove her car into the construction zone and struck the rear of the patrol car. She was not injured, according to MSP.

Officers reported “signs of impairment” and arrested Ramani. Police charged her with driving under the influence.

MSP said the officer in the car was not transported after the accident. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
