Pippa Middleton’s father-in-law accused by French authorities of raping a child: report

David Matthews, father-in-law of Pippa Middleton, has been charged by French authorities with rape of a child. He was held in custody in Paris for 48 hours before being released on bail on Friday, legal sources told French news agency AFP.

Matthews, 73, is the multimillionaire father of James Matthews, who married Pippa Middleton in May 2017.

The attack allegedly occurred in 1998 or 1999 while Matthews was vacationing in France. A witness went to the police in 2017 to report the incident. The age and identity of the witness and the victim are not known to the public.

Authorities described the charge as “rape of a minor by a person with authority over his victim,” AFP reports.

According to the Daily Mail, Matthews was arrested at Paris Orly Airport on Tuesday.

Matthews is married to his wife Jane (70) and is also the father of Spencer Matthews, who previously starred in the British reality show “Made in Chelsea”.

The entire family was present at James and Pippa’s wedding in May 2017, which was also attended by the Duchess of Cambridge and her family.

The rape case is being handled by the Paris Criminal Police Department’s youth protection brigade.
