1 man seriously injured, 1 man arrested after suspected rage-driving shooting – St George News

“We received a report of a suspected road rage incident involving a motorcyclist and a car,” Cedar City Police Chief Darin Adams told Cedar City News at the scene of the accident on Fiddlers Canyon Road, a short distance east of the intersection with Main Street.

“From the reports we receive, it appears that the motorcyclist pulled out his gun and shot the victim,” Adams added.

Witnesses at the scene reported hearing several gunshots and seeing the injured man lying on the sidewalk when the motorcyclist, who was wearing a black helmet, got back on his motorcycle and sped away.

“The victim is currently being treated at a local hospital,” Adams added.

Shortly before 6 p.m., approximately 2.5 hours after the incident, Cedar City Police Lt. JR Robinson issued a press release stating that the injured man was subsequently flown by helicopter to St. George Regional Hospital and was in critical condition.

The press release also included further details about the incident. The conflict began with a physical altercation in downtown Cedar City at approximately 3:30 p.m.

The situation escalated when the confrontation flared up again near the intersection of Fiddlers Canyon Road and Main Street,” the press release said. “During this escalation, the motorcyclist allegedly pulled out a handgun and fired at the driver of the passenger vehicle.”

The suspect was arrested a short time later in a nearby residential area without further incident, Adams said.

There was a significant police presence at both scenes, including several Cedar City police officers, Utah Highway Patrol and Iron County sheriff’s deputies, as well as officers from the Southern Utah University and Enoch police departments.

“The scenes are edited separately,” said Adams. “We’ve had a really good response and a lot of support.”

Traffic in the area was disrupted for over an hour, including road closures while investigators collected evidence and took witness statements.

Police said they are not currently seeking any additional suspects, but the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Cedar City Police Department at 435-586-2955.
