Shootings in Houston on Wednesday June 12, 2024

Houston police responded to several scenes across the city on Wednesday. At least two people were killed and several others injured.

HOUSTON — Houston Police Department investigators were busy Wednesday afternoon responding to several shooting scenes across the city.

Multiple people were shot in three different scenes in southwest Houston over three hours in the afternoon.

Later that evening, police said two more people were shot and a teenager was pistol-whipped on the Southeast Side.

The bloody afternoon began in southwest Houston, at the intersection of Hillcroft Avenue and Westward Street, when a man told police he was walking in a parking lot when a colored sedan Dark stopped next to him and opened fire. He was shot twice.

Police said the man was taken to an area hospital in critical condition and they did not have a description of the shooter.

After that, a few miles away, investigators taped off a section of an apartment complex on Wilcrest Drive, just south of Beechnut Street.

Police said a suspect broke into a man’s apartment around 4:15 p.m. during a home invasion and shot him in the leg.

Investigators said the victim managed to take the gun away from the shooter and shot him multiple times, killing him. They said a second suspect who was waiting outside fled the scene.

Authorities said they did not know exactly why the suspects broke into the apartment and did not provide a description of the shooter or his accomplice.

Shortly after, and only a few blocks away, police said they were called to another location on Wilcrest, this time just north of Beechnut, where another man was shot.

They said the man was crossing the street and heard several gunshots. He then realized that he had been shot in the leg.

“As far as we know, this is a random shooting. Like I said, he says he was crossing the street and he heard a bang and then he was shot in the leg,” HPD Lt. Larry Crowson said.

Again, police did not provide a description of the suspect.

Around 7:30 p.m., police said a young man was shot and killed in the garage of his apartment complex on Selinsky Road at Martin Luther King Boulevard on the Southeast Side. They also said another man was shot and transported in critical condition to an area hospital. Investigators said a teenager was also pistol-whipped during that incident.
