Atlanta Braves Home Plate Project Helps Fight Food Insecurity

The Atlanta Foundation Braves and Chick-Fil-A have distributed more than 300 boxes of frozen meat, fresh products and dry products in the villages of Carver Family YMCA.

ATLANTA — The Atlanta Braves teamed up with Chick-fil-A and other local organizations this week for the Braves Home Plate Project event. The organization distributed more than 300 food boxes filled with fresh produce, frozen meats and dry goods, as well as hot lunches from Chick-fil-A, at the event.

The Braves Home Plate Project aims to address food insecurity in metro Atlanta. For this month’s food distribution event, the Atlanta Braves Foundation has teamed up with Chick-Fil-A, as well as Must mini, Choices, the Community Food Bank of Atlanta, Urban Recipe and The Villages at Carver Family YMCA.

“I truly believe I have the best job in baseball – being able to take Braves baseball, build community and give back is truly a privilege,” said Danielle Bedasse, executive director of the Atlanta Braves Foundation and vice -president of community affairs for the Braves.

Bedasse said she was one of more than 30 volunteers at the June 6 event. The Atlanta Braves Foundation organizes similar food distribution events throughout the year to serve different parts of the Atlanta community.

The Braves Home Plate Project was founded in April 2020 after the COVID-19 pandemic caused a surge in food insecurity needs. Since then, the Atlanta Braves’ Home Plate Project has distributed “thousands of pounds of fresh produce, frozen proteins and hot meals” to families across metro Atlanta, according to its website.

The next Atlanta Braves Home Plate Project distribution event will take place July 11 at Pearson Middle School in Marietta. More information on future food distribution events can be found on the MLB website.
