Debra Robinson held a tribute to her sons on a beach in San Diego on Tuesday.

“Our hearts are broken and the world has become a darker place for us,” she said. “They were young men who enjoyed their passion for surfing together.

“Jake’s passion was surfing and it was no coincidence that many of the hospitals where he worked were located near surfing beaches.”

“Live bigger, shine brighter and love stronger in your memory,” she said, thanking Australian officials and supporters there and in the United States.

Ms Robinson, who also paid tribute to Jack Carter Rhoad, said her sons’ bodies or their ashes would eventually be returned to Australia.

“Now it’s time to bring them home to families and friends,” she said. “And the ocean awaits in Australia.”

Prosecutors have identified three people as potential suspects, two of whom were caught with methamphetamines. One of them, a woman, had one of the victims’ cell phones when she was caught, they said.

Prosecutors said the two were being held on drug charges but remained suspects in the murders.

A third man was arrested for a crime amounting to kidnapping, but before the bodies were found. It was unclear when or if he would face further charges.

According to the public prosecutor’s office, the third man is said to have been directly involved in the murders.

Callum, 33, Jake, 30, and their boyfriend Jack, also 30, had posted photos of deserted beaches on social media shortly before their disappearance.

Callum had reportedly been living in the US to try to become a professional lacrosse player, while Jake, a doctor, had flown out to meet him two weeks ago.

The thieves probably saw their truck and tents and wanted their tires, but the men probably fought back, said prosecutor Maria Elena Andrade Ramírez.

She said the bodies were taken to an “extremely difficult to access location” in the state of Baja California.

There was also a fourth body in the well near where her truck and tent were found that had been there for much longer, she added.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said on Tuesday he had asked for an opportunity to speak to Ms Robinson and her husband Martin.

“This is a terrible tragedy and I sympathize with them,” Mr Albanese said.
