Teenager shot and killed outside Renton Big 5 Sporting Goods

RENTON, Wash. – A teenager was killed Wednesday night after an altercation outside a sporting goods store in Renton.

According to the Renton Police Department (RPD), the 17-year-old was shot around 7:45 p.m. in a Big 5 Sporting Goods parking lot.

According to RPD communications manager Meeghan Black, the victim and two other 17-year-olds entered the store when an altercation broke out between them and a 51-year-old man. It’s unclear what led to the altercation, but Black said it turned physical.

The 51-year-old is said to have shot the victim. He is now in custody.

The King County Sheriff’s Office was conducting a drill in the same parking lot and was able to arrive quickly. Officers attempted life-saving measures, but the teenager died at the scene.
