Attention asthmatics – NBC New York

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation issued an air quality health alert for New York City and the lower Hudson Valley on Tuesday, saying it may not be safe for people with certain medical conditions to spend extended periods of time outdoors.

When ozone and/or particulate matter levels are expected to exceed a certain limit, an air quality health alert is issued to vulnerable groups, urging them to take the necessary precautions.

Active children and adults, as well as people with respiratory problems such as asthma, should avoid prolonged or strenuous outdoor activity, according to the state.

DEC also recommends taking more breaks. It advises people to watch for symptoms such as coughing and shortness of breath and to follow the action plan they agreed with their doctor.

It is expected to remain sunny and warm on Tuesday, although it will not be nearly as warm as on Monday, when temperatures were just under 32 degrees.

There is a chance of rain overnight from Wednesday to Thursday, with isolated showers possible over the weekend.
