DOLTON, Illinois – Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard is expected to meet with the town council Monday night as it prepares to override her veto of the appointment of a former Chicago mayor to lead a special investigation into the mayor.

The meeting is expected to be controversial and shortly before it, police blocked off the street in front of the community center and the parking lot.

When WGN-TV asked the deputy police chief why the barricades were being erected, he said he could not answer.

Mayor Henyard is the focus of a comprehensive federal investigation into questionable government spending and nepotism.

Henyard is accused of spending $100,000 of taxpayer money on luxury trips. Many of the allegations against her were uncovered by WGN Investigates.

WGN is now suing the town of Dolton for refusing to release expense records and documents related to Henyard’s salary.

Henyard, who is also the supervisor of Thornton Township, had to listen to angry residents at a meeting on Friday.

In Dolton, trustees who do not support Henyard hired former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot to investigate her.

Henyard vetoed the move, but trustees plan to override her veto at Monday’s meeting, saying they believe it should be voted on.

The meeting is expected to begin at 6.30 p.m.
