Family and police want to catch hit-and-run driver in Hallandale Beach who killed cyclist: “We need justice”

HALLANDALE BEACH, Florida. – Family members and police are pleading for answers after a 45-year-old bicyclist was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Hallandale Beach Friday morning.

Police say Ricardo Gray was struck and killed by a driver in the 500 block of South Federal Highway between 4 and 5 a.m. No one called police until 8 a.m.

His aunt, Norma Morris, said she and other family members were devastated.

“It’s not fair, it’s just not fair,” his aunt, Norma Morris, told Local 10 News.

Morris said he was on his way to work at Gulfstream Park. Gray lived with her until recently.

“I told him two months ago to go and start his own life because he was relying on me and then someone took his life,” she said.

The force of the impact caused his bike to break into pieces.

“If this person had stayed on scene, they could have saved our victim’s life,” said Captain Megan Jones, a Hallandale Beach police spokeswoman.

Morris said she wanted to catch the careless driver.

“They should be caught and punished, and then they will know the suffering they are causing to me, my sisters and my brothers,” she said.

Police are asking the public for help in locating the driver. They believe he or she was driving a black sedan that likely had damage to the front of the driver or passenger.

“This family is grieving, they have lost a loved one and we need justice,” Jones said. “Anyone with any information, big or small, please call us.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
