Eminem releases controversial new song “Houdini” and refers to the shooting with Megan Thee Stallion

Eminem released his controversial new single “Houdini” today (May 31), and the track references the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion.

In 2022, Tory Lanez – real name Daystar Peterson – was found guilty of shooting Megan Thee Stallion in both feet in 2020. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison and began serving his sentence the following August.

In his latest song “Houdini,” Eminem refers to the incident and raps: “If I asked Megan Thee Stallion to collaborate with me / Would I really have a chance to succeed? I don’t know, but I’m glad to be back.”

Elsewhere there are more controversial lyrics in which he references transgender people, Ru Paul and cancel culture.”“Cancel me, huh? Okay, that’s it, go ahead… But you can all suck my cock, or even fuck her…” he raps in one verse.

The track begins with a line from Eminem’s 2002 single “Without Me”: “Guess who’s back, back again / Shady is back, tell a friend,he raps. The song, which was produced by Eminem and his long-time collaborator Luis Resto, also contains a sample of “Abracadabra” by the Steve Miller Band in the chorus.

In the song’s accompanying video, Eminem recreates elements of his “Without Me” music video, with cameos from Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Pete Davidson and others. He also breakdances and returns to his blonde look from the beginning of his career.

The track will be featured on the rapper’s new album “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce).” There is no release date for the album yet, but it is expected to be released sometime in the summer.

Dr. Dre announced earlier this year that the rapper was working on new material and hired him to produce it. “Eminem is working on his own album that’s coming out this year,” he said. “I actually talked to him and he said it would be okay if I announced it here and now… So he’s putting out an album, I’ve got songs on it and it’s awesome.”

Eminem’s latest studio album “Music To Be Murdered By” received a three-star review from NME“Eminem’s discography once seemed unbalanced, youthful iconoclasm dissolving into creative exhaustion. But now it seems a little more interesting,” it said.

“These strange newer records could age well (…) The bigger question is this: Should Eminem continue to age in disgrace or maintain the dignified figure he displays on the moving and powerful pro-gun control track ‘Darkness’?”
