Westbrook boarding school student attacked victim with axe: reports

A student accused of attacking another student with an axe was reportedly taken into custody after a three-day manhunt.

WESTBROOK, CT — An Oxford Academy student is accused of attacking another student with an axe on the Westbrook campus Friday night, NBC CT reported.

The student was later charged with attempted murder. The victim was taken by LifeStar helicopter to a nearby hospital for treatment of serious injuries, according to state police.

Police responded to the Oxford Academy campus on Boston Post Road around 8:30 p.m. after a report of an injured child.

Surveillance footage shows one teen attacking another and then running away. State police, sniffer dogs and a police officer were involved in a three-day, large-scale search before the teenage suspect was taken into custody, WTNH News-8 reported.

He was taken to a hospital for medical evaluation and remains in custody, according to state police. He has been charged with attempted murder.

According to WTNH News-8, a school official confirmed that the incident occurred on campus and that the student, who is hospitalized, is in stable condition.

The families of both teenagers were informed about the incident.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
