Car crash on Jeju leaves one dead and one injured after iPhone crash detection alerts authorities

One person was killed and another injured when their car overturned on Jeju Island on Tuesday.

The accident occurred at 1:17 a.m. in Seongsan-eup, Seogwipo, Jeju, when the SUV fell into a ditch and overturned, police said.

The 21-year-old driver died at the scene of the accident, while a 23-year-old passenger is being treated in hospital for a shoulder injury.

The iPhone’s car crash detection feature automatically calls emergency services when an accident is detected.

If a serious car accident is detected and the phone user does not respond, the device automatically calls emergency services.

After the automatic alarm, the fire department searched the area but was initially unable to find the fire department. With the help of another alarm from the surviving passenger, they found the overturned vehicle.

The police are currently investigating the cause of the accident.
