A massive tornado in Mahanoy City triggered a warning in Lancaster, Pennsylvania on Monday.

A massive tornado in Mahanoy City prompted a warning in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, on Monday. The National Weather Service (NWS) warned residents of Schuylkill County and surrounding areas of a possible tornado in the region. Several videos of the gigantic tornado moving through residential areas in the evening were widely shared online.

The NWS office in State College has issued a tornado warning for northeast Lancaster County in southern Pennsylvania. The warning will remain in effect until 9:00 p.m. (EDT).

This came after the weather agency, through radar-based rotation, located a severe thunderstorm with the potential to produce a tornado over Rothsville at around 8:24 p.m. local time. The thunderstorm was moving southeast at a speed of 15 miles per hour.

“Flying debris will be dangerous for people without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. There will be damage to roofs, windows and vehicles. Tree damage is expected,” the NWS State College warned Lancaster residents in a detailed weather report.

The dangerous storm, which can produce tornadoes, would reach the Akron, Ephrata and Leola areas around 8:30 p.m. (EDT). It could also reach New Holland around 8:40 p.m. (EDT), according to the NWS.

Other places affected by the tornado-laden storm include Fivepointville, Bowmansville, Farmersville and Lancaster Airport. “This includes the Pennsylvania Turnpike from mile 288 to 289,” said the weather report, which advised residents to seek shelter as the situation was dangerous.

“SEEK SHELTER IMMEDIATELY! Go to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a stable building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in an RV or in a vehicle, go to the nearest stable shelter and protect yourself from flying debris,” the weather report concluded.
