Lemont police investigate collision, fatal accident involving Amtrak train – NBC Chicago

Police in the southern suburb of Lemont were investigating Saturday afternoon after a woman was struck and killed by an Amtrak train, authorities said.

The incident was reported around 3:30 p.m. near downtown Lemont. An Amtrak spokesman said a person trespassing on the tracks “came into contact” with Amtrak train 22 en route from San Antonio, Texas, to Chicago.

The identity of the woman who was hit and killed is not yet known to authorities, but she is believed to be 47 years old. None of the 130 passengers or crew on board were injured, authorities said.

Amtrak said it is cooperating with local law enforcement in the investigation.
