Debris and damage from strong storms is seen in Barnsdall, Oklahoma, Tuesday, May 7, 2024.

One person has died after multiple tornadoes struck Oklahoma and several other states earlier this week as part of an ongoing severe weather outbreak.

As FOX affiliate KOKI-TV and NBC News reported, authorities with the Osage County Sheriff’s Office announced the tornado-related death shortly after a massive tornado hit Barnsdall late Monday, May 6.

This is the second time a tornado has struck Barnsdall in the past five weeks, CNN reported. On April 1, an EF-1 twister hit the city.

The storm then moved toward Bartlesville this week, causing significant damage there as well, although no one was killed, according to a post on the city’s Facebook page.

Tornadoes also struck parts of Missouri and Tennessee.

In Sullivan, Missouri, tornadoes severely damaged a popular spot called One More Pub and Grub as well as the local high school on Tuesday, May 7, according to FOX affiliate KTVI and CBS affiliate KMOV.

And two radar-displayed tornadoes touched down in Middle Tennessee Monday afternoon, causing damage in Wilson and DeKalb counties, NBC affiliate WSMV-TV reported.

The National Weather Service will assess the damage from each storm on Tuesday.

In addition to the tornadoes, the storms brought strong winds, heavy rain, and large hail to affected areas. The federal government’s Storm Prediction Center said nearly 245 storm advisories were issued Monday, according to CNN.

The severe weather outbreak is not over yet as Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and parts of surrounding states brace for an increased risk of tornadoes from Tuesday through Wednesday, May 8, according to the NWS.

Many areas in these states have already been hit by tornadoes and severe thunderstorms in recent months – and especially in the last week as severe weather continues to hit the Midwest and Plains states.

Five people, including a baby, died in a tornado outbreak that struck Oklahoma, Nebraska, Iowa and several other Midwestern states in late April. Four of the deaths occurred in Oklahoma and one was reported in Iowa.

The area prepared for tornadoes on Tuesday was also hit by an outbreak in mid-March that killed three people in central Ohio.
