Third man arrested on suspicion of murder after two women in their 20s died in a house fire

A third man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a house fire left two women dead and four people injured.

Emergency services were called to a house in the Dunstall Hill area of ​​Wolverhampton at around 2am on Saturday.

According to West Midlands Police, the two women, reportedly in their early 20s, were confirmed dead at the scene.

Four other people – three men and a woman – were taken to hospital after the incident.

The three men were not seriously injured, but the woman remains in a serious condition, West Midlands Police report.

A 46-year-old man was recently arrested on suspicion of murder along with two other men, aged 19 and 22.

According to police, it is believed that all three men in custody were known to the women.

West Midlands Police were also given additional time to question the 19 and 22-year-olds, who were initially taken into custody on Saturday.

Chief Inspector Richard Fisher, of Wolverhampton Police, said: “Two women have tragically lost their lives and our thoughts are with their loved ones at this deeply distressing time.”

“We know how disturbing this is for everyone in the community and we are working as sensitively as possible to determine the cause of this terrible fire.”

“This is a very active investigation and it is important that we do everything we can to get answers to what happened.”

The fire was extinguished just before 3am after 20 firefighters from Wolverhampton, Fallings Park, Tipton and Bilston fire stations attended the scene.

West Midlands Fire Service said a further person was “discharged by emergency services at the scene”.

The fire service said in a statement: “Three fire engines and two 4×4 brigade response vehicles attended, manned by 20 firefighters from Wolverhampton, Fallings Park, Tipton and Bilston fire stations.”

“The first one was at the scene three minutes after he was mobilized.”

“They arrived to find a serious fire had broken out in a property at the end of the terrace from which four people had managed to escape.

“Several firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property. Very unfortunately, the bodies of two people were found inside.

“It was confirmed that the fire was extinguished shortly before 3am.

“Our investigators will be working with West Midlands Police to establish exactly how the fire started.”

They also expressed their “thoughts and condolences” to everyone affected by the incident.
