Charlamagne speaks in the interview in which he admits to raping his wife

Jessica Reid, the woman who accused radio host Charlamagne Tha God of raping her when she was 15, recently sought to reopen a criminal case against him over the alleged assault. Charlamagne pleaded guilty to contributing to the delinquency of a minor, admitted that he threw the party where the incident occurred, but vehemently denied being the culprit.

Due to the resurgence of rape allegations in 2001, the author’s previous interviews are now being analyzed with great care. In an undated recording, he admitted that his first sexual encounter with his wife Jessica Gadsden could technically be considered rape.

“I keep telling you. I’ve told you all this over and over again. “A lot of things that men did, especially when we were young, were rapes that we just didn’t consider as rape,” he said during the interview.

“I am married to my wife. Me and my wife were together for a whole year, she didn’t want to give me pussy. Me and my wife were hanging out on a Saturday night and she got really drunk and passed out at my mom’s house and I got that pussy. She fucked me back and stuff, but she was really drunk. I asked her yesterday, “Yo, did I rape you the first time we had sex?” And she’s like, ‘I mean, in hindsight, yeah…'”

Needless to say, Charlamagne immediately received backlash for his comment. To clear things up, the MTV personality called his wife The Breakfast Clubwhere she claims she was not raped by the father of her children.

“Lenard, you have to learn to tell stories. You shouldn’t have used the word “rape” right at the beginning because the conversation we were having was about rape culture. The conversation we had was that you felt like it was okay to have sex with me while I was drunk. This is a rape culture thing. This is not rape. When you asked me this question, I hesitated to answer you because you used the word rape. But I mean, that’s not what happened. Like we both knew what happened. I didn’t faint. I was very coherent so I was able to lift my hips so you could take off my panties. That’s what happened. You know that happened. And the next morning we had sex. That’s what I’m saying, your memory sucks. You don’t remember anything. And also the first kiss that evening.”

Charlamagne also apologized for his poor choice of words and tone when discussing rape on his podcast, saying he has matured in the years since.
