(COLORADO SPRINGS) – The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) said a suspected fraudster was caught after police worked with an elderly fraud victim who had already given the suspect money twice.

According to CSPD, an elderly person was the victim of a computer fraud that led to telephone contact with the suspect, identified by police as 29-year-old Lin Chengkang. CSPD said the victim was asked to deliver cash to Chengkang, which police said occurred twice within three days.

CSPD said at approximately 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, the Financial Crimes Unit, along with patrol officers, conducted a sting attempt to apprehend Chengkang after the victim was asked to provide more money.

Chengkang was taken into custody without incident. CSPD wants to inform the public that if you are instructed to withdraw money from your bank account and give it to a stranger, it is likely a scam. If you have concerns about your bank account, contact your bank directly.
