One woman was killed and four were injured in a crash in Sanilac County

A woman was killed and four other people were injured, including an 11-year-old boy, in a head-on crash in Sanilac County on Thursday afternoon.

According to a news release from the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 4:50 p.m. Thursday, an off-duty sheriff’s sergeant radioed Sanilac County Central Dispatch to a two-vehicle crash with multiple injuries on M-46 near Isles Road in Sanilac County to report Moore Township.

Sanilac County officers, along with Moore Township Fire, Sanilac EMS, Eastern Huron EMS, Marlette EMS and the Michigan State Police Caro Post responded to the scene where they learned a 2019 GMC Terrain driven by a 31-year-old Snover woman A 2019 Buick Enclave with four people collided.

An initial investigation by the sheriff’s office revealed that the 2019 GMC Terrain was traveling east on M-46 when it attempted to pass another eastbound vehicle and entered the path of the Buick Enclave, which was struck by one 15-year-old boy from Columbus was legally driving with his 49-year-old mother.

The teenager tried to avoid a head-on collision and left the road on the right shoulder. The GMC Terrain then struck the Buick head-on on the shoulder of M-46.

The Snover woman was treated at the scene by Sanilac EMS and transported to McLaren Lapeer Region Hospital for treatment of her injuries.

The Columbus teen, his mother, his 11-year-old brother and his 78-year-old grandmother were treated at the scene by Sanilac EMS, Marlette EMS and Eastern Huron Ambulance Service and then transported initially to McKenzie Health System in Sandusky.

The 78-year-old woman, a Lynn resident, later died from her injuries. The 11-year-old boy from Columbus was taken to Flint Hurley Medical Center for further treatment.

All occupants of both vehicles involved were wearing seatbelts.

The crash remains under investigation and names are not being released, the release said.
