One dead in car accident, investigations ongoing

YUMA, Arizona (KYMA, KECY) – The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) received a report of a car accident Monday evening.

A press release states that the accident occurred around 8:15 p.m. in the area of ​​South Somerton Avenue and West County 9th Street.

According to YCSO, a 2003 Nissan Altima was traveling north on Somerton Avenue “when it passed another northbound vehicle.”

According to YCSO, while attempting to return to the northbound lane, the vehicle “left the roadway and entered a farm field” and rolled over several times, “ejecting the driver.”

YCSO further stated that the driver, identified as 53-year-old Benito Macias Bravo of Yuma, was taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center (YRMC) where he was pronounced dead.

Bravo was the only occupant of the car and next of kin have been notified, according to YCSO.

Although it is unknown whether impairment played a role in the accident, the investigation is ongoing, according to YCSO.
