There are isolated storms here; observation of the tropics

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – Some sun and rain with another muggy day for the NCFL as we get ready to close out July.

  • Tuesday: A mix of sun and clouds with isolated showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the afternoon. Maximum temperatures between 35 and 35 degrees.
  • Tuesday night: A few thunderstorms in the evening, partly cloudy overnight. Lows between 21 and 25 degrees.
  • Wednesday: Partly cloudy with showers and a few thunderstorms in the afternoon. Maximum temperatures between 35 and 35 degrees.
  • Advanced: Depending on developments in the tropics, the chance of rain may increase late this weekend.

Our Tuesday started quietly with some limited showers in the Gulf. Expect a mix of sunshine and some clouds forming around midday. Watch for showers and isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon…with some heavy downpours in places. Temperatures will climb into the 35-40s…feels like around 40 degrees…so be cautious outdoors! Skies will partially clear during the night while temperatures will drop to 22-25 degrees by morning. There will still be a chance of rain each day toward the end of the weekend. Chances of humidity and rain may increase late weekend into early next week depending on developments in the tropics.

Speaking of the tropics, we continue to monitor a tropical wave well east of the Lesser Antilles in the Atlantic. According to the National Hurricane Center, there is a 60 percent chance of this system developing. As it moves WNW, the wave will enter a more favorable environment and could develop into a tropical depression as it approaches Cuba or the Bahamas by the end of the week. Stay tuned!
