Megan Thee Stallion Set to Join Kamala Harris at Atlanta Rally

Rapper Megan Thee Stallion is set to perform at Vice President Kamala Harris’ rally in Atlanta on Tuesday, joining a growing list of celebrities rallying behind the presumptive Democratic nominee, according to a report confirmed by Newsweek by a Harris campaign official.

Kevin Munoz, also a member of Harris’ campaign, had earlier said on social media that Megan Thee Stallion, whose legal name is Megan Pete, would join Harris at the vice president’s first event in Georgia since launching her presidential bid. Billboard was the first to report that Stallion had given a “special performance” at the rally.

Democrats quickly rallied behind the vice president after President Joe Biden announced just over a week ago that he was dropping out of the 2024 race. Harris has also received endorsements from several pop culture stars, including British recording artist Charli XCX, whose latest album Kid has become a branding tool for the vice president’s campaign.

Other celebrities who endorsed Harris early in her campaign include singer and actress Demi Lovato, singer-songwriter John Legend, American actor George Clooney and Star Wars icon Mark Hamill. The vice president also obtained permission from Beyoncé to use the Grammy Award-winning artist’s song, Freedomat his first rally in Wisconsin last week.

Harris is also not short of endorsements from party leaders. In the first 48 hours of her presidential campaign, the vice president has been endorsed by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Representative and former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. Former President Barack Obama endorsed Harris along with his wife, former first lady Michelle Obama, late last week.

Former President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump saw a wave of public figures show their support for his reelection campaign at the Republican National Convention this month. Model and rapper Amber Rose gave an impassioned speech supporting Trump on the first day of the convention, and singer and rapper Kid Rock performed his hit American Bad Ass before the former president delivered his opening speech on the final day of the event.

Newsweek reached out to the Trump campaign via email for comment on Harris’ plans for Tuesday’s rally.

Harris’ momentum has helped Democrats close the gap with Trump and Republicans in national polls. Voter surveys have also shown the former president’s lead narrowing in key states like Georgia, which Biden flipped in the 2020 election by beating Trump. According to a recent Landmark Communications poll, Trump trailed Harris by 1.3 percentage points (48% to 46.7%) in a hypothetical head-to-head matchup among likely voters in the Peach State. When other candidates were included, Trump beat Harris by 1.5 points (45.8% to 44.3%).

In another poll conducted last week by Emerson College Polling and The Hill, Trump was leading Harris by 2 percentage points in Georgia, which was within the poll’s 3.4-point margin of error. The margin was also a notable improvement over Biden’s performance against Trump in Georgia. Earlier this month, another poll conducted by Emerson and The Hill found the president trailing by 5 percentage points.
