Shooting at bar in San Bernardino County leaves two dead

Two men are dead after a shooting at a bar in San Bernardino County on Saturday.

According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, it happened around 8 p.m. at Joy’s Lounge, a highland bar in the 27,000 block of Baseline Street.

During their preliminary investigation, investigators were able to determine that the victim, identified as 38-year-old Jonathan McConnell of Corona, was involved in a hit-and-run accident with the suspect, identified as 37-year-old Aaron Harris of Highland.

“McConnell was riding a motorcycle on the 210 Freeway when he changed lanes and collided with the sedan carrying Harris and his two children, ages two and five,” the SBSD statement said.

After the accident, Harris followed McConnell off the highway into the bar’s parking lot, officials said.

“When McConnell arrived in the parking lot, he met with several people he knew outside Joy’s Lounge,” the statement continued. “Harris stopped his vehicle and yelled threats at McConnell.”

Officers said Harris pulled out a gun and opened fire on McConnell as he approached his car. McConnell returned fire.

Both men were hit by gunfire and died after being taken to a nearby hospital.

Another man, who was not identified at this time, suffered a gunshot wound to the hand.

The children were not injured in the incident.
