Houston Astros battle two contenders for star job

The Houston Astros are looking for help at several different positions ahead of the 2024 MLB trade deadline on Tuesday.

Astros general manager Dana Brown has been vocal about his desire to bring in an impact starting pitcher. Houston could also benefit from an upgrade at first base.

When it comes to the position, the Astros have been linked to some big names. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Pete Alonso have been mentioned, as has Cody Bellinger. However, another name is starting to emerge as a top target for Houston.

Tampa Bay Rays All-Star third baseman Isaac Paredes is considered a player the Astros could pursue to move to first base.

According to a report from MLB insider Jon Heyman, The New York PostHouston is very interested in the slugger. However, they are reportedly in trade talks with two other contenders to get him.

These two teams are the Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Yankees.

Although they face competition, Heyman still believes the Astros are the best trade option for Paredes.

“The Rays are listening to anyone who isn’t settled yet, but I’m concerned that his 69 home runs for them were taken away, making Yankee Stadium not the ideal venue. (Houston, with its nearby Crawford Boxes, works better.)”

Paredes has had a great performance so far in the 2024 season. He has played in 100 games, batting .247/.355/.438, along with 16 home runs and 55 RBIs.

If Houston were to acquire him, his offensive abilities would be a major asset to the Astros. Their offense would take a big leap forward and help them achieve their goal of reaching the playoffs.

Despite all the adversity Houston has faced due to injuries, the team has remained competitive. They are now in a position where one or two key changes could help them win the American League West and be a playoff contender.

Paredes would be a perfect strikeout choice and would be a much better first base option for them. Based on the price, this seems like a perfect match.

Expect to continue to hear rumors circulating about the Astros.

It is very likely that they will take action and make a move or two in the next few days.
