Grady County detention officer arrested for child abuse

PAULS VALLEY, Okla. (KFOR) – A Grady County detention officer was arrested for child phonography.

The Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office worked with the Garvin County Sheriff’s Office to arrest 27-year-old Benny Christopher Weldon.

Police received a tip on July 23 that Weldon had several illegal videos and images.

According to police, Weldon admitted to using dark websites and apps to collect the child pornography. He also admitted to knowingly sending the images and videos to people he met online in the past four to six months.

The Garvin County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Weldon was a jailer and had previously worked for the Garvin County Sheriff’s Office.

“Based on our investigation, I have no information that he ever did anything while employed by the Garvin County Sheriff’s Office,” said Garvin County Sheriff Jim Mullet.

Weldon was charged with distribution of child pornography, sexual exploitation of a child under the age of twelve, violation of the Oklahoma Computer Crimes Act, and repeated involvement in criminal activity.
