Police are investigating a report of an anti-Semitic incident outside the Oak Park synagogue

Oak Park — Police are investigating a report that a man drove his SUV near two women outside an Oak Park synagogue last week and shouted anti-Semitic obscenities at them.

According to a press release from the Oak Park Department of Public Safety, the women were walking outside the synagogue at 9:14 a.m. May 2 when the driver stopped near them.

“As the women were approached, the driver began yelling obscenities at both individuals that were anti-Semitic in nature,” the statement said. “The subject also threw a pair of plastic-wrapped work gloves at one of the women and then drove away after the glove struck her.”

Police described the driver as a man with thick dark hair and a long dark beard.

Investigators believe the man was driving a dark blue 2008-2012 Chevrolet Traverse with a large dent on the passenger door and a blue Michigan license plate with yellow lettering.

The 2008-2012 Chevrolet Traverse was wanted in connection with the May 2 incident.

“We are committed to providing the necessary resources to not only ensure the safety of all of our residents, but also to promote that sense of security,” said Steve Cooper, Oak Park Public Safety Director. “Our commitment to supporting the people of Oak Park and raising awareness of the ongoing conflicts outside the United States remains strong.”
