A Sex and the City musical parody is coming to town

I recently had the pleasure of meeting Tim Flaherty, President of Entertainment Events, Inc. and Valerie Witherspoon, author of Sex n’ The City: A (Super Unauthorized) Musical Parody. The show will be playing one more time in town, on August 4th at 3pm at Shea’s 710 Theatre.

Sex n’ The City: A (Super Unauthorized) Musical Parody was workshopped in Scottsdale, Arizona in November 2019 and began touring in early 2020. The pandemic put a stop to the tour, but it resumed in 2021 and has been on the road ever since, playing venues from coast to coast.

The 95-minute show (with one intermission) gently pokes fun at Sex and the City, and has four actors playing multiple roles. This fast-paced production spans all six seasons of the series and both film versions.

The book, lyrics and some of the melodies were written by Grand Island native Valerie Witherspoon. Witherspoon now sings and writes in Las Vegas, but she still has plenty of family in WNY. She has always been a fan of Sex and the City and was inspired to write this musical parody after starring in another musical parody; that one was based on Friends.

Witherspoon suggests that viewers watch some of these episodes to refresh their memories before coming to see the show.

  • Season 1, Episode 11
  • Season 2, episodes 8 and 9
  • Season 3, Episode 15
  • Season 4, episodes 8, 11, 12, 18
  • Season 5, Episode 7
  • Season 6, episodes 3, 5, 7 and 20

Mr. Flaherty says: If you’re a fan of this show and want to have a unique and fun trip down memory lane, grab your girlfriends and unlimited mimosas and head to Shea’s 710 Theatre for a great time!
